Recently a meta-analysis was conducted to measure the statistical significance of research on Transcendental Meditation and reductions in high blood pressure. This meta-analysis only included research studies performed with rigorous scientific methodology**. Six different research studies, with a total of 449 subjects, where in included in the this meta-analysis.
The meta-analysis concluded that Transcendental Meditation showed clinically and statistically significant changes in blood pressure (-5.0/-2.8 mm Hg).
** Inclusion Criteria for research trails:
1) Subjects where randomly allocated to experimental or control interventions; 2) Blood pressure changes where compared to another stress reduction program versus a minimally treated or attention-control group; 3) Base line blood pressure levels where assessed over multiple clinic visits or 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure recording was used in lieu of multiple clinic visits; 4) Studies were of at least 8 weeks in duration from baseline to post-test or follow-up assessment; and 5) Studies where published in peer-reviewed English-language journals.
